Protect what's important to you. Jewelry appraisals, insurance, and why it matters.

Has it been over five years since you last had your jewelry appraised? Most likely, the value on your appraisal does not match current market prices. Gold is MUCH higher than it was 5, 10, 20 years ago and is currently at an all-time high! Diamond prices have also risen over time since you got that engagement ring 10 years ago. Even if your valuables value hasn’t changed much, some insurance companies require you to renew them every x number of years! (each insurance company is different, please check with them for details about your policy).

Getting your jewelry appraised by me is super simple. I can either:

  • Provide concierge and do pick up and drop off of your jewelry. (jewelry is fully insured while in my care)
  • I provide you a prepaid shipping label and you mail it to me (also fully insured for shipping)

"But how do I know I should get my jewelry insured?"

  • Rule of thumb is if you do not have the extra cash on hand to replace it if it's gone, you need insurance on it.
  • You insure your home and car. Why would you not do the same with your fine jewelry which you likely spent $1000s on?
  • Unlike cars, jewelry can either appreciate or depreciate over time. Appraisals should be updated accordingly every few years to reflect the current market prices.
  • Homeowners insurance typically includes generic jewelry coverage for $1,500-2,000. To get additional coverage you need to have your jewelry professionally appraised and add a “rider” to that policy.
